Porn Ruining Sex Life of Millions

16 08 2013

Millions of people have no more groove in bed — and it’s all because they’re addicted to pornography, according to a report in Psychology Today.

But the problem is much more serious than simply either being good or bad in the sack, it’s a physiological issue causing a new generation of men to lose their libidos 30 years sooner than expected.

How did this happen?

According to the report, overexposure to sexually explicit images and video have caused men to lose interest in ordinary sexual encounters — including experiences with a real woman:

Today’s users can force [their] release by watching porn in multiple windows, searching endlessly, fast-forwarding to the bits they find hottest, switching to live sex chat, viewing constant novelty, firing up their mirror neurons with video action and cam-2-cam, or escalating to extreme genres and anxiety-producing material. It’s all free, easy to access, available within seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

After a period of time, excessive porn watchers overstimulate a neurochemical in their bodies called dopamine — the drive behind every “want” and “desire” that humans feel we need to “overcome.” But with your libido in constant drive mode, your dopamine reaction will become numb and, eventually, you won’t be aroused by the same experiences as before.

This occurrence is similar to veteran drug-users describing their need for stronger mind-inducing chemicals in order to receive the same “high” they once had. In the same way, porn-addicted men will need more extreme sexual experiences to feel the same kind of arousal.

It’s an endless cycle and if you think Viagra will help, you’re wrong.

Sexual-enhancement drugs work by breaking down a blood vessel dilator called cGMP and this is what causes an erection. If your libido is over worked, the drugs can only cause a physical erection, but a pleasurable sensation cannot be achieved.

The only cure is to avoid internet erotica at all costs, but this will be “one of the most difficult things you’ve ever done,” says the study.

In order to have “normal” sex again, a “reboot” period — six to 12 weeks — is needed by completely letting go of your pornographic nature. Addicts can experience a temporary loss of libido altogether as well as “insomnia, irritability, panic, despair, concentration problems, and even flu-like symptoms.” For more information, read the Porn Circuit

It’s opinion but I could find Data to back it up. I could find data to backup anything it’s just it seems to me that the scientific studies are based on a few subjects and don’t speak to the countless millions that watch porn. I don’t watch a ton of it but when I do me and my girl enjoy it and we look forward to regular sex. Did the study you metionted test a million people? +Chinwuba Iyizoba

+Alexx Pegues scientific studies are not done on millions of people but on perhap 400 or 500 people as sample: take the case of SAR virus, if 7 out every 10 people in a sample of 400 are positive then it is reasonable to consider SARs epidemic. This is not to say that there are not one or two odd individual that will be resistant to SAR. Still psychologist have reports from thousands of people addicted to porn complaining of erectile malfunction, loss of concentration, irritability, depression, libido loss in normal life relationship. This is because of porn excitement cause release of excessive dopamine in the central nervous system. Then again, the law of diminishing return sets in when someone is addicted to porn and like crack user, they need increasing dosage of to get the same feel.

You are right +Lexi Six psychology today’s article based its article on studies of younger men of 20-34 age range and found considerable erectile dysfunction syndrome, and an overwhelming number reporting concentration-loss and other problems. I extrapolated the range considering that at 40, dysfunctions arising from porn use would escalate considerably if not controlled. Again the psychologist did not advice those with problem to watch a little at a time rather the advice them to ” keep away from porn” if they dont want to have these problems. Not a bad advice considering the addictiveness of dopamine stimulation caused by porn. That is anti-porn.

Porn is old though, if that were the case it would have been ruined a long time ago. I smell religious agenda.?

Yes, Paul, porn is as old as the bible, if that is what you mean by religious agenda. It is not ruined, just like heroine and cocaine addiction is not ruined and might never be in spite of clear studies on their harmful effects. One thing is sure, porn addiction has ruined many people according to this article http://www.mikekey.com/how-porn-will-destroy-your-life/?

If you eat too much sugar, you’ll get fat and lazy and probably develop diabetes… and they might even have to cut your foot off…

The blame does not lie with sugar.

If you can’t get it up cause you watched too much porn, the fault is your own… not porns….

LOTS of people have very healthy sex lives that include porn. I’d even hazard to suggest, the vast majority of people do….

So, yeah… hogwash

Clinton Hammond, watching porn is not exactly like eating sugar because pornography is addictive. Perhaps this is why many who have struggled with multiple addictions report that it was the hardest for them to overcome. Drug addictions, while powerful, are more passive in a “thinking” kind of way, whereas pornography viewing, especially on the internet, is a much more active process neurologically. The constant searching for and evaluating of each image or video clip for its potency and effect is an exercise in neuronal learning, limited only by the progressively rewired brain. Curiosities are thus fused into compulsions, and the need for a larger dopamine fix can drive the person from soft-core to hard-core to child pornography—and worse. A paper published in the Journal of Family Violence in 2009 revealed that 85 percent of men arrested for child pornography had also physically abused children. http://www.pornharms.com/slave-master-how-pornography-drugs-changes-your-brain-research/?

I say B**s**t! I watch pornography with my male “friends” as well as my female “friends”, some of them in this age range, it gets us all hot and bothered, but we don’t have to be watching it to get our freak on, now do we have to be doing some outrageous sex act, it can, and sometimes is, just normal vanilla one on one sex

I dont think it is as simple as that Lexi Six. Here is an article that says that more and more young Italian men are suffering from ‘sexual anorexia’ and are unable to get erections because of Internet porn use that started in their mid-teens, experts have said. Here is the link http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/rubriche/english/2011/02/24/visualizza_new.html_1583160579.html?

I think it would be safe to say that pornography is ruining the life of all who use it…sex life, spiritual life, thought life, etc.
