Story of Fr Emil Kaupon, hero of the Korean war. Fall of 1954, 1million Chinese troops crossed the 22nd Parallel and overwhelming the US army fighting in South Korea, took them prisoner. A Chinese soldier put his gun on the head of an injured marine about to pull the trigger. A priest walked up and pushed the gun away, picked up the injured soldier, put him on his shoulders and walked away. At the POW camp, the priest helped the men stay alive by giving them his own food, encouraging the hopeless, curing the sick. He was murdered by the Chinese. But on release, his men swore that history will never forget what this priest had done. The pressed the US government to award him the congressional medal of honor.

Why the  Preacher Quit

15 03 2017

I once heard the story of a preacher who quit the ministry after twenty years and became a funeral director. When asked why he made the change, he replied, “Well, I spent three years trying to straighten out Fred, and Fred is still an alcoholic. And I spent six months trying to straighten out Susan’s marriage, and she filed for divorce. Then I spent over two-and-a-half years trying to straighten out Bob’s drug problem, and he’s still an addict. Now at the funeral home, when I straighten them out—they stay straight.”

The growth and

development of

people is the highest

calling of leadership.

Living, breathing human beings require continual attention. And development is demanding work.

Sabaste and the Jew :Short story

11 03 2017

St Sabasta was very distressed when a Jewish business man he had brought to the verge of converting to Christianity wanted to go to Rome, to the Vatican to do business. This was the time of the Borgia Pope”

” You should get baptized first before going,” Sabasta pleaded

“Why”

“Because once you see the Pope and cardinals and how corrupt they are you will never join the Catholic Church ”

” I am good businessman “,  said the Jew” and I believe in business before pleasure” ”  I must conclude my business in the Vatican first ”

A few months later the Jew returned and came straight to Sabasta

“I am ready to be baptized now  and enter the Church ”

” What!   you didn’t go after all? ”

” No,  I just came back, ” the Jew replied.

” And you want to become a Catholic,  after seeing the corrupt cardinals and Pope ”

” Yes,  I told you I am a good business man. ”

“In my experience,  any institution as corrupt as the Catholic Church will collapse in 14 months. The Church has lasted 14 centuries.  It has to be miraculously preserved by God.  So I want to join”

This is who we are: The Catholic Church

28 01 2017

*The  Catholic Church*
Before 1517, every Christian was Catholic.
As such, today we know that:
If you are Lutheran then your Church was founded by Fr Martin Luther in Germany in 1517.
If you are Menonite, your Church was founded by Grebel, Mantz and Blaurock, in 1525.
If you are Anglican, then your Church was founded by King Henry XIII in 1534.
If you are a Presbyterian, then your Church was founded by John Knox in 1560.
If you are a Congregationalist, then your Church was founded by Robert Brown, in Holland in 1583.
If you are Baptist, then your Church was founded by John Smith in Amsterdam, in 1606.
If you are a Methodist, then your Church was founded by John Murray in New Jersey, in 1770.
If you are a Mormon or Latter Day Saint, then your church was founded by Joseph Smith in New York, in 1829.
If you are a Seven Day Adventist, your Church was founded by William Miller in 1831.
If you are Salvation Army, then know that your Church was founded by William Booth in 1865.
If you are Jehovah Witness, then know that your Church was founded by Charles Russell in 1872.
Here at home:
If you are Redeemed Christian Church of God, then you know that you were founded in 1952 by Josiah Akindayomi.
If you are a member of Deeper Life Bible Church, then you were founded by Pastor William Kumuyi in Lagos in 1973.
If you are Mountain of Fire, then you were founded by Dr. Daniel Olukoya in 1989.
We can go on and on and on.
I have listed  these not to denigrate anyone but just to set the records straight.

The Catholic Church has remained where it has been since Christ instituted the Eucharist, called the Last Supper.

We continue to do over and over what He commanded when He uttered those holy words over the bread and cup, take and eat, take and drink and ordered them to do this in His Memory

until He comes again (Mt. 26:26).
So, we were founded by Jesus Christ, beginning with that

gathering at Pentecost (Acts 2:1) over two

thousand years ago led by 266 successors of the Chair of St. Peter.

That is who we are and what we represent.

Prison Warder Transforms Killers To Gentlemen

27 01 2017

Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is a prison with a difference. Run by a Christian warder, Nathan Burl Cain, this prison transforms killers to gentlemen. Here, murderers and vicious men are transformed into family men who love their children. The Warder said that when he first came, there was blood everywhere, gang’s crimes and murders. Not knowing where to begin, he decided to introduce them men to God, seeking in religion the needed moral strength to overcome hopelessness. It worked. He used the concept of WORK and PRAYER to convert these criminal to decent human beings. This is a testimony that anyone can change for the better. It is an excellent tool to teach humanity about redemption and to show the skeptics that people can change and given the right environments and nurturing. 6,000 men currently imprisoned at Angola

24 yr old Nun Raped by soldiers, became pregnant: Sister Lucy Vertrusc

22 12 2016

24-year-old nun was taken to a back room and raped

In 1995, Sister Lucy Vertrusc – a young Catholic nun – became pregnant after she was raped by soldiers during the war in former Yugoslavia.

After coming to terms with her condition, Sister Lucy sat down and penned an extraordinary letter to her Mother Superior.

And Mother Superior, so moved by Sister Lucy’swords, insisted that her words be shared in an Italian newspaper.

The powerful letter begins: “I am Lucy, one of the young nuns raped by the Serbian soldiers.

“I am writing to you, Mother, after what happened to my sisters Tatiana, Sandria, and me.

“Allow me not to go into the details of the act. There are some experiences in life so atrocious that you cannot tell them to anyone but God, in whose service I had consecrated my life nearly a year ago.

“My drama is not so much the humiliation that I suffered as a woman, not the incurable offence committed against my vocation as a religious, but the difficulty of having to incorporate into my faith an event that certainly forms part of the mysterious will of Him whom I have always considered my Divine Spouse.”

She continued: “Someone grabbed me one night, a night I wish never to remember, tore me off from myself, and tried to make me his own…

“It was already daytime when I awoke and my first thought was the agony of Christ in the Garden. Inside of me a terrible battle unleashed. I asked myself why God had permitted me to be rent, destroyed precisely in what had been the meaning of my life, but also I asked to what new vocation He was calling me.

“I strained to get up, and helped by Sister Josefina, I managed to straighten myself out. Then the sound of the bell of the Augustinian convent, which was right next to ours, reached my ears. It was time for nine o’clock matins.”

Sister Lucy explained that she went to say her prayers, as normal, and found herself struck by the image of Jesus sacrificing himself to save mankind from their own sins.

She explained: “In these last months I have been crying a sea of tears for my two brothers who were assassinated by the same aggressors who go around terrorising our towns, and I was thinking that it was not possible for me to suffer anything worse, so far from my imagination had been what was about to take place.

“Every day hundreds of hungering creatures used to knock at the doors of our convent, shivering from the cold, with despair in their eyes. Some weeks ago, a young boy about eighteen years old said to me: ‘How lucky you are to have chosen a refuge where no evil can reach you.’

“The boy carried in his hands a rosary of praises for the Prophet. Then he added: ‘You will never know what it means to be dishonoured.’

“I pondered his words at length and convinced myself that there had been a hidden element to the sufferings of my people that had escaped me as I was almost ashamed to be so excluded. Now I am one of them, one of the many unknown women of my people, whose bodies have been devastated and hearts seared.

“The Lord had admitted me into his mystery of shame.”

The young nun finished: “Everything has passed, Mother, but everything begins. In your telephone call, after your words of encouragement, for which I am grateful with all my life, you posed me a very direct question: ‘What will you do with the life that has been forced into your womb?’

“I had already decided. I will be a mother. The child will be mine and no one else’s.

“I know that I could entrust him to other people, but he – though I neither asked for him nor expected him – he has a right to my love as his mother. A plant should never be torn from its roots.”

Sister Lucy added: “I will go with my child. I do not know where, but God, who broke all of a sudden my greatest joy, will indicate the path I must tread in order to do His will.

I will be poor again, I will return to the old aprons and the wooden shoes that the women in the country use for working, and I will accompany my mother into the forest to collect the resin from the slits in the trees.

“Someone has to begin to break the chain of hatred that has always destroyed our countries. And so, I will teach my child only one thing: love.

“This child, born of violence, will be a witness along with me that the only greatness that gives honour to a human being is forgiveness.”
